When charged with the task of gathering content for the In Person section of our blog, our first thoughts were why will people want to read this? Why will they want to know more about WDG’s employees and firm culture?  Why is this important?  One answer can be found in the evolving trends of modern workplaces.

The term work has progressively become a lone star verb, and seems to have lost its place. Feeling lonely yourself? This could be due to the lack of social interaction between coworkers, which used to spontaneously occur around the proverbial water cooler.

Knoll published the article “5 Trends that are Dramatically Changing the Workplace”, which states:

“While collaborative technologies are fine for exchanging formal knowledge, they don’t work well to help you get to know colleagues on a personal level—in other words the dialogue that used to take place around the company water cooler. The so-called social media technologies are going to help

fill this gap.”

In an age of smartphones and iPads, telecommuting has become increasingly easy and popular. These technologies provide mobility in the workforce, which allows employees the ability to maintain a higher degree of work-life balance. We’re sure many people would argue the availability of technology has added work to the life side of the scale, but how about bringing more life to the workplace by revealing the personalities that keep this train moving?

The goal of our blog is to do just that.  We want to provide a social network to our employees and clients by showing the personal side of WDG.  We hope this generates an understanding of our culture, our employees, and what makes us tick.  Think of this as the new water cooler, minus the water. What inspired you to become involved with this event? Isn’t that a beautiful city? Have you seen that new exhibit?  In Person is a place to share those stories and make connections.  So post, comment, and enjoy!
