Two apartment towers, 15 and 17 stories totaling 455 units with 18,000-sf of ground floor retail and 4 levels underground parking for 385 vehicles. Features include rooftop pools, clubrooms, and outdoor landscaped terraces.  Pursuing LEED certification.

Description

The Gallery at Bethesda is located at the intersections of Del Ray, Rugby and Auburn Avenues, within the Woodmont Triangle area of Bethesda.  The first phase, at 4800 Auburn Avenue, is 234 units with 5400-sf of retail. The second phase will be a 221-unit building at 4850 Rugby Avenue with 19,500-sf of ground floor retail.

Located intentionally to maximize the activation of street frontage, the apartment entry and retail areas are located off a neighborhood park and public plaza, and additional retail space extends down Del Ray Avenue. The arcade along the public plaza on Rugby Avenue also serves to tie the building wings of both phases together and articulate this street frontage. The main facade will be a feature element, predominantly glass, surmounted by an open framed outdoor sitting area at the rooftop sundeck. The top of the building is developed with pool, sundecks and garden areas, plus clubroom and game room.

The exterior materials are predominantly brick, masonry, glass and aluminum, with precast concrete and cast stone elements. Glass will be modern and high performance to allow for maximum clarity and transparency while not sacrificing the energy conservation goals of the enclosure walls. The development is being designed to the US Green Building Council guidelines for LEED certification.
