Positioned within the Springfield Community Business Center, the Springfield Commuter Parking Garage redefines traditional parking infrastructure as a multimodal transit hub and community asset. Designed to support one of Northern Virginia’s most active commuter corridors, the six-level structure consolidates parking, bus transit, and carpooling into a highly efficient and accessible mobility center.
The project transforms a former surface lot into a vertically integrated facility that prioritizes connectivity and safety. A dedicated transit center with seven bus bays, organized slugging lanes, and designated rideshare areas streamline daily commuter flows, while a pedestrian and bicycle bridge provides a safe, direct connection across Old Keene Mill Road to adjacent retail and services.
Beyond its transportation function, the garage is conceived as an extension of the public realm. The ground level and rooftop are activated as flexible community spaces, accommodating events, markets, and recreational uses that bring new life to a typically utilitarian building type. Integrated bicycle facilities, EV charging stations, and clear circulation systems further support a shift toward more sustainable, multimodal commuting.
As both infrastructure and destination, the Springfield Garage enhances regional mobility while contributing to the long-term vision of a more connected, transit-oriented Springfield.
