Description

The history of Washington, DC’s Waterfront community dates back to the 18th Century. Included in the city’s original plan drawn by Pierre L’Enfant, it is situated on the Washington Channel. Economic revitalization is transforming the Waterfront into a vibrant community center with mixed-uses. Honoring the revitalization plan’s chief goal—connecting the city to its waters—the Wharf redevelopment links the built environment to its surrounding natural context.

Design inspiration for the condominium and apartment interiors is drawn directly from the site. Rather than attempting to evoke a specific emotion, the design seeks to connect residents with their surroundings. For waterfront-facing condo dwellers, the link is intuitive. By facilitating views, the built environment reinforces enjoyment of nature through subtle, unobstructed design. This creates a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. The apartment component offers eclectic elements –finishes, form, subject and color – reflective of nature. Vibrant earthen colors reinforce this theme.
